| Seven years ago, Michael Ebert, was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Initially treatment was successful. After two years the cancer returned, taking his bladder and prostate. In November of 2006, he was then diagnosed with Kidney cancer and right before Christmas of 2006, he lost his kidney during a life threatening operation. To see him smile on Christmas day was our miracle. Just recently he was found to have secondary Lymphoma, and other cancer sites as well, and is undergoing radical chemotherapy to save his life. His wife Darlene is Michael's sole caregiver, while she takes care of their children, and works. As a self employed businessman, and main source of income for his family, he tries valiantly to work, and often cannot because of the side effects of treatment. The burdens of being self employed and the responsibility of medical bills, living expenses, and educational expenses have become overhwelming.
In June of 2007, Michael's family got together and began planning a benefit to help raise money benefit to help alleviate the financial and emotional burden associated with his illness and treatment.
On August 26th, 500 people gathered at Colden Lakes Resort, for a day of laughter and tears, a magical moment when all of us joined together in love, to help our beloved Michael. Friends from all over the world gathered for 10 hours, to dance, sing, laugh, cry, and be with each other and Mike and his family.
It was difficult to settle into months after the benefit. Mike and Darlene and family kept fighting the battle, and Mike was finally out of his first round of Chemotherapy with great success.
Not soon after, it was discovered that one tumor never shrunk and was actually growing larger, and Mike is back in chemotherapy. Its a particularly rough drug with bad side affects, and Mike is tired and weak. We are all behind him 150%, loving him, and praying him out of pain. Mike is aided by the most extraordinary caretaker in the world, his wonderful wife Darlene. She endures and understands human emotions that most of us can never feel or express. She is steadfast in her love and devotion to her family and her husband. She cares for all of us, and never lets us go for a moment.
Help us to help Mike and Darlene. Leave a message in the guestbook, say hello to Mike, his family, and his extended family and friends. Pass the message on, and remember that love rules. Mike taught his family to love each other again, to heal the rifts of time, to forget the harsh words once spoken, the grudges held, the birthdays and holidays forgotten. We are all together now, five brothers and a sister who would fight the fight for each other over and over again.
